Parental Involvement

Parents are the first educators of their children. The aim of St.Francis is to support parents in their essential role.  In order to accomplish this we will:

  • Involve parents in shared record keeping about their own child, both formally and informally, ensuring that parents have access to all written records on their children. Please refer to our Confidentiality, Shared Information and Data Protection policies.
  • Ensure that parents are given information on a regular basis about their child’s progress and have an opportunity to discuss this with staff during drop off and pick up times. We have in the group a diary where entries are made daily and these will be fed back to the parents at these times.
  • Ensure all parents regardless of ethnic and cultural background, gender or disability are given the opportunity to contribute from their own skills, knowledge and interests to the activities of the group.
  • Ensure that new parents are aware of and can contribute to the groups systems and policies.
  • Encourage parents on an individual basis to play an active part in the management of the group, such as becoming a member of the parent committee.
  • Ensure that all parents are fully informed about meetings, conferences, workshops and training.
  • Consult with families about times of meetings, to avoid excluding anyone.
  • Hold meetings in venues which are accessible and appropriate for all.
  • Welcome the contributions of parents, whatever form these may take.
  • Make known to all parents the systems for registering queries, complaints or suggestions. Please refer to our complaints policy.
  • Provide opportunities for parents to learn about our curriculum and about children’s learning, in the pre-school and at home. We send home regular newsletters giving parents information and details about the pre-school.
  • Welcome parents with special needs or disabilities into the group, by encouraging them to share their skills and life experiences as a valued asset to the pre-school. please refer to our equal opportunities, inclusive practice and special educational needs policies.
